Besides linguistic spread and population differences, India and South Africa share numerous historical similarities, and excellent historical cultural and economic relationships. These similarities and relationships provide an excellent foundation for information and knowledge sharing in both nation’s race to defeat the harmful impacts of inequality, poverty and unemployment. India’s comparatively high economic growth rates, the nation’s technological prowess which is held back only by India’s complex demographics, and the ICT regulatory system similarities between the two nations provides fertile grounds for highly effective collaboration. The SAKAN initiative will examine these important opportunities for collaboration very closely, and develop productive and mutually supportive partnerships between the two countries.
